The American tech giant Apple has paid a fine of 906 million rubles in Russia for abuse of a dominant position. The Russian competition authority announced this on Monday.
Apple was fined in April 2021 because app developers were required to use the iPhone maker’s payment system. The American company previously said it “respectfully disagrees” with the allegation about the alleged competitive advantage. It appealed and appealed in cassation, but both were rejected.
The fine came after a complaint from Kaspersky Lab, a Russian company specializing in cyber security.
Apple withdrew from Russia after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. As a result, new apps can no longer be purchased in the App Store in the country, and Russian developers cannot offer their apps elsewhere.
