British Prime Minister Johnson Cancels India Trip Due to Corona

British Prime Minister Johnson has called his Indian colleague Modi to cancel an essential visit to India later this month.

Boris Johnson regrets having to postpone his visit to India due to the spread of the feared coronavirus.

It should have been the Prime Minister’s first major trip abroad in July 2019 and the first after the actual British departure from the European Union.

Johnson would also attend the parade on the National Day of India on January 26, Republic Day.

It will then be 70 years since India’s Constitution came into effect, and the country became a republic. The constitution replaced the British Government of India Act of 1935. The country gained independence from the British Empire in 1947, but it had no constitution and no head of state at that time.

So far, only one British Prime Minister has attended the National Day in New Delhi, John Major in 1993.
