CES 2025: Samsung Equips TVs With Vision AI

Samsung is making its smart TVs even smarter this year. At the CES tech show in Las Vegas, the South Korean company introduced the first screens with Vision AI technology, which adds a dose of artificial intelligence to the viewing experience.

Vision AI is the collective name for many gadgets powered by artificial intelligence. First, Samsung uses AI to improve image and sound quality. This is done by analyzing the content on the screen and environmental factors in real-time, after which image and audio are dynamically optimized. Certain models get 8K AI Upscaling Pro, where AI can ‘intelligently’ boost programs in ‘lower’ resolutions to 8K quality.

All subtitled
But it is the actual AI gadgets that capture the imagination. Live Translate, for example, is where an AI model directly translates and subtitles television programs in any language. Or how you will soon be able to watch channels like ZDF or TF1 without problems, even if your German or French is not that good.

Click to Search, on the other hand, provides immediate information about what is displayed on the screen. Think of the name of an actor, details about a particular product, or the location of the film set on the screen. Streaming services such as Amazon Prime and Apple TV+ also have a number of these options, but in principle, the new Samsung televisions work with any content. The screens rely on Microsoft’s Copilot technology for some of the AI functions.

Central hub
Like Apple and Google, Samsung wants to be present in your home with a central hub. The Vision AI screens can perfectly fulfil that role. For example, they offer extensive support for Samsung’s SmartThings ecosystem, allowing you to control and manage your smart home via the television. The Home Insights function even provides real-time updates about your household environment, such as safety alerts and other notifications.

Also worth mentioning is Pet and Family Care, a feature on Vision AI TVs that monitors the behaviour of pets and family members. For example, if your child falls asleep while watching TV, the TV will automatically dim the lights in the room and adjust other settings to improve comfort.
