In Paris, a climate activist lowered the French flag and tied himself to the flagpole on the roof of the Panthéon. The environmental organization Dernière Rénovation has claimed responsibility for the action.
“This strong symbol has been chosen to highlight the grave danger facing the French population as the government fails to take major steps to stop global warming,” the organization wrote on Twitter.
Photos show the protest action by the young climate activist, who was later removed from the roof by a firefighter. “If I’m flying at half mast today, it’s because we have to mourn all the people who now die every year from floods, fires, and famine. In short, because of climate change,” the young activist said on Twitter.
A few days ago, Dernière Rénovation had also blocked a highway near Paris to warn of an impending climate disaster.
