Clothing brands Patagonia and The North Face will stop advertising on Facebook and Instagram from July 1.
The boycott is part of the Stop Hate for Profit campaign, which calls on Facebook to crack down on racist, violent and hateful content.
The plan is to maintain the boycott for at least one month, to force Facebook to change. If the new rules take longer to arrive, the brands promise to continue their ad stops longer.
The Stop Hate for Profit campaign is an initiative of several American activist organizations.
For example, they consider the identification of Breitbart (a website with right-wing extremist links) as a trusted news source a significant problem.
Facebook is also said to have allowed messages calling for violence against peaceful protesters.
