Outgoing NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg is open to staying longer, he hints. However, a decision on this is up to the thirty member states of the military alliance, he says.
They may call on him now that NATO could use a trained foreman because of the conflict with Russia.
In principle, 63-year-old Stoltenberg will retire as NATO Secretary-General at the end of September.
The Norwegian former prime minister would then become the central bank’s boss in his homeland. But when asked on Wednesday, he did not reject the possibility of an extension of his work at the Brussels NATO headquarters.
Stoltenberg is already the longest-serving secretary-general of the Western Alliance at almost eight years.
