Employers are increasingly turning to budget coaches to prevent employees from getting into financial trouble. “Budget coaches are very busy; we got a lot more requests than around this time last year,” said a spokeswoman for the National Institute for Budget Information.
The courses are designed to teach employees how to budget to take control of their spending. “We suspect employers also notice that their people struggle to make ends meet. So they try to help people get a grip on their financial situation,” the spokeswoman explains.
“Of course, most people suffer greatly from high energy bills and inflation,” she continues. The spokeswoman could not give exact figures about how often budget coaches are called in.
A new coalition of national aid organizations also sees that the problems in society are increasing. “The division is great, and a growing number of people are struggling with social, financial and health problems”, states several organizations, including SchuldHulpMaatje, TijdVoorAction and JobHulpMaatje.
By joining forces, they hope to be able to tackle the problems better in collaboration with local churches and thousands of volunteers. “By working together, we can support more people better. It is already visible in various places that this works,” according to the organizations.
