English cafes have done well after the easing of the lockdown. The turnover from beverage sales in the hospitality industry was almost 114 percent higher on Monday than on the same day in 2019, the year before the pandemic.
Pubs and restaurants in England have been allowed to serve customers since Monday, although this is only allowed outside for the time being.
That did not prevent the English from taking a seat on terraces despite the winter weather. This was not allowed for the past three months due to the lockdown.
Not all cafes were able to welcome customers again. Only 38.2 percent of the catering businesses had the opportunity to do so outside, CGA analysts calculated. Companies that only have space indoors for customers still have to be patient.
They are expected to open their doors again on 17 May.
