Banks in the European Union must transfer payments within 10 seconds if their customers want it if it is up to the European Commission.
As a result, an employee no longer has to wait a whole weekend for his salary and a package that has to be paid for can be mailed immediately; that is the intention.
That is why the committee wants to make it mandatory from now on if the EU countries and the European Parliament agree. This is easier and more pleasant for consumers and businesses.
In addition, 200 billion euros are released daily to spend or invest, which still hangs around the unemployed every day between one bank account and another.
The committee suggests that banks should also not charge a higher rate for an instant payment than a regular one. She cites the spectre of an Italian bank that asked 30 euros per quick transfer.
However, the day-to-day management of the EU is not afraid that banks will raise their rates across the board in the future. After all, then they will lose customers, the committee thinks.
