The IT problems at Lufthansa that led to chaos at German airports have been resolved. Flights from the airport in Frankfurt will resume, a spokesman for the German airline has said.
“The systems are rebooting. So there will be departures from Frankfurt again,” said the spokesman. Thousands of passengers were stranded due to the major outage on Wednesday. Among other things, the systems used for checking in and boarding did not work.
According to Lufthansa, damage to fibre optic cables in Frankfurt was the cause of the problems. As a result, Lufthansa, including the Swiss, Austrian, Eurowings and Brussels Airlines companies, initially grounded all aircraft. In addition, two Lufthansa flights were cancelled at Schiphol to and from Frankfurt.
According to a spokesman for the Dutch airport, the malfunction had little impact on Schiphol.
