NATO is sending more troops and equipment to its member states in Eastern Europe. However, it concerns the resources of the army, air force and navy. “The readiness of our troops has been increased to respond to all circumstances,” the military alliance said.
NATO places the blame for the conflict over Ukraine entirely on Moscow.
NATO refers to Article 4 of the treaty with which the alliance was established. It states that the countries consult together when a member state feels threatened. NATO also emphasizes that it has no qualms about Article 5.
It states that an attack on one member is an attack on all members, and that attack will be answered collectively. That article has been used once in history: after the terrorist attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001.
