The coronavirus outbreak has killed nearly 8,000 people in the UK. The death toll rose by 881 to 7,978 in one day, Foreign Minister Dominic Raab announced.
The minister stated that now more than 65,000 people in his country have tested positive for the virus.
He warned his countrymen that the peak of the outbreak has not yet been reached. Therefore, according to Raab, it is still too early to relax the lockdown.
The lockdown has been in effect since March 23 and is scheduled to be reviewed after three weeks.
“We don’t think we can say more about that before the end of next week,” said Raab.
The minister replaces Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who himself became infected with the virus and is in intensive care.
