Russian President Vladimir Putin held a bilateral meeting with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in Uzbekistan on Thursday, as agreed.
According to Moscow, the situation in Ukraine and Taiwan is the subject of discussion. Furthermore, the sustainable trade relationship between China and Russia and the mutual economy are also discussed against the background of Western sanctions.
“Putin’s meeting with Xi is of special significance, taking into account the current state of affairs in the world,” the Kremlin statement said, which called Xi’s approach to the “crisis” in Ukraine “balanced” on Tuesday.
The Russian and Chinese leaders will meet face-to-face for the first time since Russian forces invaded neighbouring Ukraine. They last saw each other during the Winter Olympics in early February.
In the Uzbek capital Samarkand, where the cooperation organization SSO will meet on 15 and 16 September, Putin also consults with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan about the Ukrainian grain deal. In addition to China and Russia, India, Pakistan, and several Central Asian countries also belong to the SSO.
