Russia-Ukraine Talks to Continue on Tuesday

According to a Ukrainian participant, the fourth round of talks between delegations from Ukraine and Russia will continue on Tuesday.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said talks with Russia are making slow progress. Zelensky cancelled a last-minute speech to the Council of Europe on Monday because of more pressing matters. However, he did not say whether that had anything to do with the meeting.

Ahead of the latest online talks, Russian negotiators discussed significant progress in the negotiations over the weekend. And Ukrainian negotiator Mikhail Podoljak noted with satisfaction that “the Russians are no longer issuing ultimatums, but are seriously listening to our proposals”. Podoljak briefly stated on Monday that the negotiations are difficult but ongoing.

The first consultations between the warring parties took place on February 28 in southeastern Belarus and lasted five hours. After that, two more consultation rounds were held. The foreign ministers of the two countries met for an hour on Thursday in the Turkish resort of Antalya. According to the Russian news agency TASS, there could now be daily online consultations.
