Well-known Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has gone on a hunger strike until he receives proper medical treatment.
The critic of the Kremlin regime, who is imprisoned in a labour camp, demands that a doctor visit him. This is evident from a message on his Instagram account.
Navalny has previously complained of severe back pain, leg problems and a lack of medical care.
He is in a penal colony about 100 kilometres from Moscow, where he is serving a 2.5-year prison sentence.
His lawyers were able to visit him recently after losing access to their client for a while. Prison authorities would only have given Navalni two painkillers a day.
