Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has denounced the hardening of his detention conditions. According to Navalny, from now on, he will be in a small solitary cell, and he will not receive a visit from his relatives.
His environment shared the message on social media.
“Congratulate me!” Navalny said he had been moved to a small cell for misbehaving prisoners and being placed in solitary confinement. In his own words, he is only allowed to keep two books and is no longer entitled to long-term visits from his relatives.
“On four days of the visit, they told me I was being transferred. And long-term visits do not exist for this type of cell,” says Navalny, who assures that he has not seen his parents, wife and children for months.
Prisoners of the Russian penal colonies could spend up to three days with their relatives on the colony grounds. “They are doing this to shut me up. What does this mean? Precisely! That I should not be afraid and should not be silent,” said the opponent.
Aleksej Navalny was arrested in Russia in January 2021 upon his return to his country after a severe poisoning he attributes to the Kremlin. In March, he was sentenced to nine years’ imprisonment under a “strict” regime on charges of “fraud”, which he says are trumped up. Nevertheless, he continues to release reports opposing Russian President Vladimir Putin and his attack on Ukraine.
