In Scotland, under the corona policy, people are no longer allowed to leave their homes as of Tuesday, January 5 unless strictly necessary or for short-term outdoor practice.
The measure will apply for the rest of this month. The schools remain closed.
This is the core of the strict lockdown with which the government of Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon wants to prevent the coronavirus’s spread, especially that of a new variant of the coronavirus that emerged at the beginning of last year.
Sturgeon cites the new variant as justification for the draconian measures, saying she hasn’t been so concerned about the virus’s spread since March.
The details of the coercive measures and whether they will apply across Scotland or only in ‘contaminated’ areas should become clear later on Monday when Sturgeon addresses the recalled parliament.
