Sony is significantly increasing the price of its cheapest PlayStation 5 console in Europe, the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
The Japanese electronics group wrote in its Playstation blog that the move should be viewed “against the backdrop of a challenging economic environment, including high inflation and volatile exchange rates. “
The PlayStation 5 is more than four years old. Sony has already expanded its range with a more expensive, improved PS5 Pro edition, but the Japanese company is not changing the price of that model.
Nintendo Switch 2
With President Donald Trump’s trade war, the United States will likely be unable to avoid a price increase for the PlayStation 5, although Sony has not yet released any details. American consumers are now preparing for price increases on various consumer goods.
Last week, analysts at Bloomberg Intelligence predicted a 30 percent price increase for game consoles in the U.S. as a base case, with the expectation that such a move would require a global price review. The experts also assumed that the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 would be more expensive than the price advertised last week.
