Suspect Arrested in Murder of Journalist Khashoggi

In the high-profile murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, one of the suspects was arrested in France.

The man was arrested at an airport near Paris when he was about to board a plane to Saudi Arabia, French media reported.

It is Khaled Aedh al-Otaibi, a former member of the royal guard. He is alleged to have been involved in the violent death in October 2018 of Khashoggi, who was working in the United States.

A ruse lured Khashoggi to the Saudi consulate in the Turkish city of Istanbul. He was never seen alive again. Instead, he is believed to have been murdered, and his body subsequently smuggled out of the consulate in parts.

According to US intelligence services, Saudi crown prince and de facto ruler Mohammed bin Salman backed the covert operation to take out regime critic Khashoggi.
