The European Commission is sending 5300 doses of monkeypox vaccines to Spain, one of the EU countries most affected by the virus.
In the coming days, Portugal, Germany and Belgium will also be provided with vaccines. They come from a stock of 109,090 doses of the Imvanex vaccine that Brussels has built up.
Earlier this month, the committee purchased the vaccines, for which demand is high but supply is limited. It was the first time that the EU daily board bought vaccines from the European budget.
Vaccines are delivered first to the countries most in need. More deliveries will follow in July and August, according to the committee.
