Turkey Welcomes Many More Tourists, But Fewer Russians

Tourism in Turkey is on the rise. The country welcomed about 6.3 million holidaymakers in the important summer month of August.

That was much more than a year earlier when corona played an even more prominent role, and Turkey had just under 4 million holidaymakers.

Europeans, in particular, visited the Turkish Riviera and other hotspots more often. On the other hand, the number of Russians who went on holiday to Turkey decreased slightly.

Unlike other countries, Turkey has not imposed sanctions on Russia in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. As a result, Russians can also continue to go on holiday to Turkey. In August, 806,000 Russians chose Turkey as their sunny destination. That was 906,000 in August last year.

In total, more than 204,000 Dutch people visited Turkey in August. That was more than 116,000 a year earlier. Germans most often went to Turkey in August. A total of 858,000 German holidaymakers visited the country. That was 611,000 a year earlier. The number of Britons flying to Turkey rose sharply to 555,000, from 21,500 in the summer month of 2021.

From January to August, Turkey saw the tourist flow more than double. The counter stands at 29.3 million travellers up to and including August.
