Ukraine is Asking Saakashvili to Negotiate With the IMF

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski has asked politician Mikhail Saakashvili to negotiate with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on behalf of Ukraine for increased support.

The former President of Georgia has also been asked to become Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine.

“We don’t get enough money from the IMF,” Saakashvili said in Ukrainian media.

“The economy of Ukraine is going through a hard time because of the coronavirus, and it requires rigorous measures that have not been taken before.”

The IMF, of which almost all countries are members, can provide loans to countries in difficulty.

According to Ukrainian media, parliament has doubts about the political return of Saakashvili. It is therefore not yet certain that he will be appointed as Deputy Prime Minister.
