Sources told Bloomberg that Apple may expand its streaming service AppleTV+ to Android devices. The tech company will soon unveil an app that can be installed on Android smartphones and tablets.
Apple’s move would be rare. The company typically tries to keep customers loyal to its products by maintaining services exclusive to Apple devices. However, AppleTV+ has also been made available over the years for certain smart TVs and game consoles. Android users have been left out until now.
A few years ago, something similar happened with Apple’s Music streaming service: initially, you needed an Apple device, such as an iPhone, iPad or Mac, but an Android app followed later.
Competition struggle With this next step, Apple seems to be vigorously pursuing streaming services like Netflix and Disney+. However, according to industry estimates, AppleTV+’s offerings still lag behind the biggest platforms in terms of viewing figures. Apple itself has not previously disclosed subscriber or revenue figures.
