High-Ranking US Social Security Official Resigns Over Fight With Musk

The highest-ranking official at the US Department of Social Security is resigning because she refuses to provide information to Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) task force.

Sources report to The Washington Post, among other publications, that the official, Michelle King, is resigning after decades of service at the department.

According to insiders, DOGE attempted to obtain extensive personal information from Americans who receive certain forms of social assistance. For example, the department has medical records of people declared unfit for work.

Musk’s task force, set up to combat waste, fraud, and abuse, also requested access to the tax service’s heavily secured system this week. The Washington Post wrote that it is “highly unusual” for politicians to gain access to taxpayers’ personal data.
