Prince Harry Resigns as Patron of Self-Founded Foundation

British Prince Harry has resigned as patron of Sentebale, a Lesotho-based charity he co-founded. The Duke of Sussex’s decision follows an internal conflict.

The relationship between chairwoman Sophie Chandauka and the foundation’s directors is said to have “irreparably deteriorated.” Chandauka sued the charity after she was asked to resign and has spoken to British media about abuse of power and intimidation at Sentebale.

Not only Harry, but also Prince Seeiso of Lesotho is resigning as patron. Together, they founded Sentebale in 2006 to help African orphans. The prince did this in memory of his mother, Princess Diana.

“It is with a heavy heart that we have resigned from our roles as patrons of the organisation until further notice,” Harry and Seeiso wrote in a joint statement. “It is terrible that the relationship between the foundation’s board members and the chairman of the board has deteriorated irreparably, leading to an untenable situation.”
