Man Who Spent 24 Years in Prison for Murder He Didn’t Commit Now Makes Shocking Confession

An American man who spent 24 years in prison for a murder he didn’t commit has now confessed to killing someone last year.

Shaurn Thomas received $4.1 million in compensation from Philadelphia a few years ago. This sum was awarded to him after he spent time in prison between 1992 and 2017 after being convicted of a murder he did not commit.

Thomas would become one of the standard bearers for the Pennsylvania Innocence Project, a legal services company that tries to free wrongfully convicted people.

Seven years after his release, however, Thomas has admitted to killing another man, 38-year-old Akeem Edwards, early last year over a drug debt of about $1,200 (more than 1,130 euros). The man will now likely spend the rest of his life in prison again.

Thomas, now 50, is said to have met his victim through an association for Americans who had been innocently imprisoned. Edwards is said to have given him cocaine, among other things, but was never paid for it. On January 3, 2023, Thomas shot Edwards dead; he confessed a few days ago.

Judge Roxanne Covington could not believe that Thomas, who had become a millionaire a few years earlier, would murder such a relatively small debt. “Are these facts true?” she asked. “Yes, Your Honor,” Thomas replied.
