US President Trump has called his top advisor on the coronavirus, Anthony Fauci, a disaster. “If I listened to him, we would have 500,000 dead,” Trump said.
During the corona crisis, the president has repeatedly been at odds with the highly respected scientist and infectious disease specialist.
The Americans are fed up with all measures against corona, Trump said in a pep talk with campaigners. “They’re fed up. People are tired of hearing Fauci and all those idiots.
Fauci is a nice guy. He’s been here for five hundred years,” the Republican president continued of the 79-year-old pundit.
They permanently differ on how to tackle the corona crisis, which has already claimed more than 219,000 lives in the United States.
Trump suggested he avoided firing Fauci to prevent adverse reactions. Fauci served under Republican and Democratic presidents. Since 1984 he has been director of the national institute for infectious diseases, among other things.
