Space Company Jeff Bezos Postpones New Glenn Rocket Launch Again

The first flight of New Glenn, the launch vehicle of Blue Origin, the space company of Amazon founder and billionaire Jeff Bezos, was postponed again on Monday.

The launch has already been postponed twice before.

The launch was delayed several times on Monday, and eventually, the venture was cancelled altogether. “We are halting today’s/Monday’s launch attempt to resolve a subsystem issue with the rocket, which is taking us outside the launch window. We are evaluating options for our next launch attempt,” the company wrote on X.

The launch was to take place from Cape Canaveral in Florida. Blue Origin could enter a new market with New Glenn: launching large commercial and military satellites and spacecraft to the moon and Mars. It would then make a big catch-up move against its rival, SpaceX, of another American billionaire, Elon Musk.

If the first launch succeeds, more flights will follow in 2025. Contracts have already been signed to launch missions to Mars and the moon, as well as for internet satellites from companies such as the Canadian company Telesat.

New Glenn will also launch part of the planned Amazon network, similar to Musk’s Starlink satellites. The rocket is named after John Glenn, the first American to orbit the Earth.
