The verdict against Donald Trump in the case concerning sexual abuse and defamation of E. Jean Carroll remains in place, a federal appeals court decided on Monday.
The Republican had appealed because he wanted the $5 million penalty he had to pay to the writer to be reversed.
The verdict of May 2023 arose from an incident in a department store’s dressing room in Manhattan in the mid-1990s. Carroll said that Trump had raped her.
In a message on Truth Social in October 2022, Trump called the claim a hoax. The court jury found that there was no rape but did impose a penalty on Trump for assault and defamation.
