Global Damage From Natural Disasters 313 Billion Dollars in 2022

The economic damage caused by climate change and natural disasters will amount to 313 billion US dollars worldwide in 2022, according to research agency Aon.

At 50 billion dollars, the damage in Europe was more significant than the historical average since 2000, according to the researchers.

Hurricane Ian in the United States was the second costliest natural disaster in history, with insured damage of some $50 to $55 billion. Only the amount paid out due to Hurricane Katrina in 2005 was higher.

Worldwide, 31,300 people died as a result of a natural disasters. According to Aon, an essential part of last year’s damage was not insured.
