More Than 11 Million Corona Infections Diagnosed Worldwide

The number of corona infections diagnosed worldwide has passed 11 million. The death toll from the pandemic stands at more than half a million after about seven months.

The actual number of infections is likely to be much higher than the 11 million reported by governments. That’s because not everyone is tested with the virus. Some countries do not have the means to do so.

The virus initially appeared in the Chinese city of millions, Wuhan, and then spread around the world. The number of infections and deaths skyrocketed in Europe after the outbreak in Europe and later in the United States.

The US is the worst affected country, with approximately 2.8 million infections. There, on Thursday alone, more than 55,000 new corona cases came to light, and about 129,000 deaths were reported – about a quarter of the world’s total deaths.

India (625,000 infections) and Brazil (approximately 1.5 million) are now also experiencing significant outbreaks.

In some countries where the virus appeared to be under control, such as China and New Zealand, new infections were later detected.
