WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has again warned that vigilance about the coronavirus remains warranted.
Across the world, the situation is still getting worse, while things are now improving in western Europe.
In Eastern Europe and Central Asia, for example, the number of infections is rising, and more infections were diagnosed in one day on Sunday than in the nearly six months of the virus’s home, Tedros said.
“It is not time to slow down” in the fight against the spread of the virus, which can cause severe lung diseases and which mainly affects people of old age and serious illnesses.
An estimated 7.7 billion people live in the world, and more than seven million infections have been diagnosed. More than 400,000 patients have succumbed to the virus.
Nearly 3.5 million patients have now been cured. Of the current approximately 3.2 million patients, 2 percent are in serious condition.
