The US government still expects the deal between Israel and Hamas to go into effect on Sunday, even though the Israeli government still has to approve it.
Deputy National Security Advisor Jon Finer told CNN that complications are expected with complex deals, especially “when there is zero trust between the two parties.”
“We still expect the deal to be implemented as directed by the president and the mediators and according to the agreed-upon schedule,” Finer said. “What we are doing now is working out the implementation details.” The top adviser to the US government also said that the US is in close contact with the Israeli government and the mediators.
Finer’s statements follow criticism from the Israeli government. It accused Hamas of going back on some agreements to force concessions at the last minute. The Palestinian movement denied this.
